Take One Step

Or; Things I have never done before

3 min read

Welcome to the very first blog written on grace.worth.courage! I hope to share with you a little insight into my life and where I feel challenged to grow, and how I’m doing it.

I’ll start with saying that I believe and have experienced how everything is connected- emotionally, physically and spiritually.

I find that as I step out and create anything, there is connectedness everywhere. My outward endeavours and inner world are a glorious mix that I can’t separate. There is always a lesson if I choose to be taught.

The words Grace, Worth and Courage haven’t been cheap to me. They have been deeply challenging. When I put action to those words, I grow into wellness and wonder. I hope that it can happen for you too. So much.

The Debut Collection came to being because I have been living it in real time. When I look back on my journey from January until now, I can see some of the connecting points. I begin to see that I’ve actually been hearing the message of taking one step for a while now, in different ways. One of them was looking back on a photo I took on holidays earlier in the year. In an Instagram post I said,

“I love this walk at Wilson’s Prom. Every time we camp there, I walk it at least 3 or 4 times. It helps me reflect and refocus. It reminds me to take one step in front of another and it doesn’t have to be fast or frantic. I get to discover what’s around the corner, and it’s different every time- the sunset, the animals, the weather. I get to enjoy the beauty in the journey. I breathe and intentionally receive calm into my soul.”

I already felt like “Take One Step” phrase was becoming quite synchronistic and I gasped when I realised I had written those words earlier in the year. So I decided to use the photo as basis and inspiration for my first collection of paintings. They remind me that as I take one step- don’t forget to breathe. Enjoy the the present beauty. Be intentional about receiving calm. You’re going to need those in your tool kit when you doing something new. I’ve had to use them on a daily basis.

My intention for this blog is to not just give you some nice thoughts, but to share how I put action to those thoughts.

So whilst this post is called “Take One Step”, it could also be known as “Things I have never done before”.

To kick off my list of things I have never done before:

1. I have never started a small business. In a pandemic.

2. I have never made a website (given, it’s Squarespace, but I had to figure that thing out!)

3. I have never worked on the financial end of a sole trader business. I had a few lets say, *difficult* moments. Numbers make me cry.

4. I have never signed up for painting courses & listened to artist podcasts until now.

5. I have never painted so much and taken over parts of our home because of it.

6. Probably most of all, I have never had to work through so many levels of self doubt & fear over stepping out into unknown territory. There are more than a few days where I have definitely questioned whether I should continue working on this at all.

I say none of this to boast, but rather to say- it’s hard doing things you’ve never done before. But…. you can do hard things! The ‘Take One Step’ collection is expression of discovering what has been in you all along and the reminder to breathe, enjoy the present beauty and receive calm into your soul while you’re doing it.

Whatever is in your heart to do, just take one step towards it…and then another. And see what happens.

There is gold inside of you, but it can only be found when you go on the journey to discover it.

Peace & Love,
Elissa x
